Seminars

All members are required to attend 4 out of 5 Fall seminars to become members (stock analysts). Stock Analysts will work in small teams to make their own stock pitch as they learn from seminars. All super casual and each team will be led by an Exec Board member! It's a fantastic way to meet other young women, gain business experience, or just learn about investing, stock pitch and financial literacy.

October 14, 2020: Seminar 3 - Understanding Financial Statements

You don’t want to miss this! Come to this seminar, where you'll gain an understanding of the financial statements of companies.  This interactive and engaging look at company statements will show you how a company works behind-the-scenes. We will be taking a closer look at revenues, expenses and other integral parts of how a company functions. Decode what statements mean and how they are used in a company's daily operations. Supplementary resources will be available on Blackboard.

October 21, 2020: Seminar 4 - Evaluating Companies with Financial Metrics

What is a financial metric?  Is it different than a financial statement and if so, what is the point?  If these are questions you have, this is the seminar for you.  We will learn about what different measures indicate and how this can impact both the company and investors.  In Smart Woman Security fashion, we will have desserts and conversation!

October 28, 2020: Seminar 5 - Creating an Investment Recommendation

Now that you have learned about companies and finances, it is your turn to make a recommendation! This is a fun, easy, relaxed environment to look into a few companies that interest you and choose which one you think is the best to invest in. Then, tell us why! Listen to companies that other young women have suggested and learn which companies are in good financial standing and have the potential for growth.

November 4, 2020: Investment Project Presentations

The culmination of this seminar series. You can showcase what you have learned and see what your peers have been working on! This relaxed seminar will be a series of presentations to watch and ask questions about.  We look forward to seeing you wrap up our seminar series.
